Dog Spoons With Injured Foster Puppy And Knew He Wanted Her To Be His

The moment I saw Opal, a little Pit Bull with her jaw mended shut, something clicked—I just knew she had to join our family. Despite her injury, her spirit was unbeatable, radiating joy and pure love, especially when that tail of hers went wild with excitement upon us meeting.

Bringing Opal home meant I had to take special precautions for her safety. This included keeping her apart from my dog, Duke, who wasn’t having any of it. The two of them yearned to play and be together, their whimpers and cries echoing through the house, pulling at my heartstrings every passing day.

It didn’t take long—only three days—before I gave in to their longing. So they got to hang out, though under my watchful gaze; play was off-limits, but love wasn’t. Their immediate cuddles melted my heart, with Opal quickly developing a deep affection for Duke. It must have been confusing for her to see Duke enjoying his toys and treats, her own inability to join in must’ve been baffling.

After five long months, Opal got the all-clear from the vet: no more wires, no more restrictions. She was free to explore life as any pup should. I took her to the pet store, a celebration of normalcy and small victories as she experienced the joy of choosing and chewing on toys for the very first time.

The following chapter of this tale was even sweeter. Duke had a request for me, one that could soften even the hardest hearts. It’s these moments that remind us: dogs are truly magnificent creatures. Wouldn’t you agree?
