Picture this: a little rescue pup, one of two siblings brought to safety from the streets of Puerto Rico. While his sister Abbie swiftly found her forever family, life had a different path for the other, a sweet furball named Abe. His roller-coaster journey took a turn when I learned about it at work. At The Dodo, our passion for animals isn’t just in what we do; it’s who we are—and that’s why our furry friends roam freely around the office.
It seemed promising at first when Abe found a new home. We were so thrilled for him we even threw a farewell bash! But my excitement was short-lived. Just days later, through a colleague’s social media update, I found out Abe was back without a home once again. The news pulled at my heartstrings; how could he be passed up like that, more than once?
Enough was enough. I just couldn’t stand by and watch his little tail wagging for someone who might give up on him. That’s when I grabbed my phone, dialed my girlfriend, and declared, “We’re getting a dog!” And with that, Abe became Bean—a nod to the legendary Kobe Bryant’s middle name, signifying his new beginning. We pledged to be his interim humans till a family eager for unconditional love-and-not-going-back took him in.
Not long after settling in, I stumbled upon the possible reason behind Bean’s returns. His playful spirit came with a need for patience and some serious puppy-proofing—this guy was a fluff-filled whirlwind of mischief. “Destruction incarnate,” I’d joke. Then the pandemic turned our worlds upside down. Together, Bean and I left for a new temporary setting, leaving behind his first foster chapter in Brooklyn. If you’re curious to see how Bean’s heart-melting story unfolds further, don’t miss out—check out the next part!
